About

Join local artist Tony Nero and Louise Thirlwall, Project Officer Arts, for a leisurely walk and draw workshop around Thorpe Meadows Sculpture Trail, exploring the sculptures, landscape and environment through sketching. During the walk we will experiment with pencil, pen and charcoal with guidance and support from Tony.

No previous drawing experience is needed, the workshop is suitable for beginners or anyone who wants to improve and Tony will help you get started. Sketch book and pencils will be provided, but please feel free to bring along your own if you prefer.

Please note the workshop will be outdoors, so please wear suitable clothing and footwear. The workshop will take place around Thorpe Meadows sculpture trail which is approx.. 2 miles long over a mix of pathways, some pathways may be wet and muddy and include some short inclines. We will stop regularly to sketch, but there is limited seating along the route. The nearest toilet facilities are at the Dragonfly Hotel or Boathouse Pub.

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England this workshop is subsidised, but places are limited. If you are no longer able to attend after booking please email louise.thirlwall@neneparktrust.org.uk so your space can be offered to others.

Please note: due to both Covid-19 and weather-related issues, some events may have to be cancelled.

About Tony Nero

Tony originally trained as a graphic designer, and worked in the music industry producing record sleeves and other items for about 25 years. Part of this time spent running his own graphic studio.

From a young age he was always interested in art and over the years this passion continued to grow. He loves to paint just about anything, learning all the time while trying to improve his work in the hope of evoking something in the viewer.

Tony’s work is very diverse and he works in various different mediums such as pencils, charcoal, pastels, oils, watercolour and acrylics. His work is inspired by nature, people, surrealism, life and other artists.. The majority of his art is self-taught but he also undertook some formal fine arts training at the London Guildhall University. He exhibits his work regularly and is very pro-active in promoting local art in Peterborough.

He also tutors children, young adults and at the adult learning college in Peterborough. Tony believes that art making can be enjoyed by anyone and can be very therapeutic. With a little guidance and a bit of give it a go attitude we can sometimes create magic.
