Hello!

We’re Hannah and Andy and we are the owners of The Chalkboard.

We went into business together back in June 2019 because we both shared a dream to open a tea room that served delicious food in a relaxed environment with great service using local suppliers.

A place where people would come and create memories. Where people celebrate special occasions from Baby Showers to retirement dos!

The name The Chalkboard was dreamt up by Hannah’s husband Chris. We liked the idea that the chalkboard linked to Hannah’s past as a teacher but was also a blank slate and a new start, we also loved the idea that we could serve our afternoon teas on your very own chalkboard! No sharing of afternoon teas here, it’s all yours! Andy and Hannah know each other through Andy’s wife, Alison, who was Hannah’s first ever teaching assistant. Andy has 3 grown up sons and Hannah has two younger boys who are 5 and 7.

We still can’t believe how lucky we were to have found the perfect venue for The Chalkboard at The Key Theatre. The Embankment has the most beautiful views even on the coldest winter days, it is truly magical to be sitting inside our glass walled building while it rains. Summer nights cannot be beaten with a glass of wine and one of our chalkboard grazing platters sat on our terrace.

The restaurant has recently had a stunning refurbishment with flowers and hearts being the main décor, we are now Instagram ready! There are so many lovely backdrops for your photos to be taken in front of which all helps to capture the lovely memories being made at The Chalkboard. We love seeing your photos so please do tag us in your photos.

We are unique in offering a Pick Your Own Afternoon Tea where you choose everything from type of bread, sandwich fillings and an extensive choice of sweet or savoury options. So even if you don’t have a sweet tooth you can still enjoy an afternoon tea! This idea came from Hannah’s sister in law who hates cakes, she said she’d much prefer to pick your own and the idea was planted in Hannah’s head…and now here we are! Offering nearly a 2,000,000 different combinations. We offer vegan and gluten free alternatives.

We also serve delicious breakfasts made from high quality ingredients including pork from Grasmere farm and our chalkboard grazing platters which are so yummy and perfect with a glass of wine. Did we mention we have a bar?
