Diwali Festival

Diwali is the festival of lights which has evolved into a global celebration. It is celebrated in the autumn during a dark new moon night. Light is a metaphor for God, truth and knowledge.

Peterborough celebrated Diwali in Cathedral square on Saturday 27th October. Celebrations have been marked in Cathedral square for the last three years and the Peterborough Diwali Festival Committee aimed to make this year's the best yet.

The event offered colourful dance performances, music, traditional food and shopping for all to enjoy.

Inaugural lamp lit by the Mayor of Peterborough Cllr Chris Ash, Deputy Mayor Cllr John Fox, Shailesh Vara MP for North West Cambridgeshire and Reverend Chris Dalliston, Dean of Peterborough Cathedral, to mark start of Diwali celebration. 11am
