Summer Lunchtime Recital series

The Cathedral's popular series of free summer recitals begins again this Wednesday, 21st June, at 1.00pm, with a piano improvisation.

City centre workers, shoppers and anyone who is visiting Peterborough on a Wednesday is invited to enjoy the 45 minute recitals, performed underneath the tower inside the Cathedral. This beautiful setting, combined with music from some very accomplished performers, is a wonderful way to pause for thought and lift your spirits at lunchtime.

The first recitalist in the series, composer and pianist, Peter Foggitt, made his BBC Radio 3 debut at 21 playing Rachmaninov’s third piano concerto. He has an international reputation for his work as an improviser and has played for silent movie screenings. He will be using audience suggestions to start off his recital.

Appearing later in the series, on 2nd August, is the harpist Eleanor Turner. She is Head of Harp at Birmingham Conservatoire and a passionate ambassador for the instrument. Her London debut, aged 15, was broadcast live on Classic FM.

The Cathedral organ's new concert pitch means that it can now be used with other instruments. Several of the recitals take advantage of this fact and the organ is featured in combination with the solo voice, guitar, trumpet and violin at different recitals.

The series is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and donations are invited to help cover the full costs.

Recitals are as follows:

Wednesday 21st June, Peter Foggitt, piano improvisation
