Drop dead gorgeous, sassy and smart, Ruby Wax brings her new one-woman show to the stage. Based on her number one best seller, “A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled,” she’s been honoured with the title of poster girl for mental illness; once crazy now less so, she gives a tour of the mind – how to use it, not lose it.

Ruby Wax, if you don’t know, is a much loved, U.S. born comedy-actor-writer of incredibly successful books and TV shows including script editor of “Absolutely Fabulous” (in which she also featured in a couple of episodes) and is a mental health campaigner.

This event is your passport to saner living and is a follow up to her previous sell-out show and book, “Sane New World.” By the way, she graduated from Oxford with a Masters in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (at a late stage) three years ago so she should know her stuff.

Born in Evanston, Illinois, USA, Ruby studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, and in 1978 joined the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Ruby got a break when she guest-starred as Lonnie, a student, in a 1980 episode of The Professionals “Bloodsports”. In 1981, she co-starred as Betty Hapschatt in the ‘not a sequel but an equal’ to “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” called “Shock Treatment” (just released on Blu-ray), and also was an Ambassador’s secretary in “Omen III: The Final Conflict.”

She starred as loud-mouthed American actress Shelley DuPont in the ITV sitcom Girls on Top, fronted the Channel 4 chat show Don’t Miss Wax, and appeared as the reporter Blaize Falconberger in the Red Dwarf episode “Timeslides.”

Ruby soon began working with the BBC, which led to The Full Wax (1991–94), and Ruby Wax Meets… (1994, 1996–98), in which she interviewed people such as Madonna, Imelda Marcos and Pamela Anderson. That series was nominated for a BAFTA Award in 1997 for an interview with Sarah, Duchess of York.

An episode of Ruby’s American Pie in 2000 saw her take on a very revealing interview with Donald Trump, which she asks everyone to spread far and wide. It can be found on YouTube.

She also presented the quiz show The Waiting Game (2001-02), hosted a run of Commercial Breakdown in 2002, and then had a further run of interview shows in Ruby Wax With… which included Joan Collins, Jim Carrey, John McEnroe and Liza Minelli. She recently appeared on the genealogical series Who Do You Think You Are?

Over the years, she has appeared in various Comic Relief projects.

Tickets for “Frazzled” are on sale now, priced £21.00 plus booking fee (or £18.00 + booking fee for concessions), via or can be reserved at The Broadway Box Office on 01733 306071, or in person at 46 Broadway, Peterborough PE1 1RT.

“Wax has been open about her experience with bipolar and related depression and by creating comedy around it, she is doing more to tackle stigma than any of those See Me adverts or endless Mind campaigns.” Sharon Jones, Scotsgay.
